Giant Cabbage Update 3

20130906-215228.jpg My how they’ve grown! The cabbages seem to be thriving well with the growing conditions that they have. I’m so proud of them! They are the first thing that I look at when I go to the allotment and they are the last thing that I see when I leave. I dread to think about what I would do if vandals decided to sabotage all of our hard work for this veg growing experiment.

They have a really wide leaf span and also seem to be hearting up really well. They have the odd pest hole here and there but nothing that would affect the size. I can’t imagine how big they will eventually get and to give more of an idea of how big they really are, I thought I’d get in front of the camera to give you a size comparison.

I feel so protective over my veg at the allotment, especially since there have been a spate of petty thefts lately. I love tucking my veg up at night. My cabbages have a special place in my heart.

20130906-221732.jpgThese cabbages shown here are in fact the babies of the bunch grown in the brassica cage. I think that they have high aspirations to get as big as the giants outside. I wonder if they will achieve their goal?

Happy diggin’

  1. Wowser never seen cabbages so huge!! Good job!! Ours have been struggling with club root and they’ve been left with the scars from many fat caterpillers…. I’m sure they’ll taste good though 🙂

    • Thanks for your comment. I’m pretty lucky so far with regards to clubroot. The slugs seem to be finding their way in for little nibbles here and there. Still, there’s enough for all. 😉

  2. Wow! Those are truly impressive!

  3. Congratulations on such beautiful cabbages.
    And so healthy.

First of all, thanks for stopping by my blog. 🙂

Second of all, those cabbages are amazing! I think I’ll definitely have to give those a try this year, so exciting to see something so big!! I wonder how they will taste?

    • Thanks for your comment. I’m hoping to harvest the cabbage sometime this week and weigh them. Then comes the question of how to cook them. I’ll be able to let you know have a taste after that.
