Ok, so we were grateful for the glorious few days of hot weather
that we are had in the UK back in July. Perfect weather for a nice, crisp salad with home-grown lettuce, but look what happened to these? Bolting is an understatement!
They did look fab though and I left them to grow on in all of their glory just to see the architectural beauty. I hope that you agree they are truly amazing.
Oh, and I still managed to eat the leaves after I had witnessed and documented their fantastic display, without any bitter after taste.
Happy diggin’

Like fairy statues eh?
But tastier 🙂
Fairy statues – I like your analogy!
There are a couple of lettuce in my poly that look just like this – still taste great tho – beats the bland taste of supermarket stuff.
I agree Lorna. They still taste fab even though they are not at their best.
Love your lettuce trees, or fairy statues! Mine did that a couple of years back, and I let them because seeds are always welcome, and the beggars grew almost as tall as me!! How tall are yours so far?
Mine got to about 3.5ft high before the wind blew them over. I got rid of them after that but not before I’d eaten the leaves!
*thumbs up*
My lettuce just died, I think it was lack of water. Maybe we could swap some of your lettuce for some of my tomatoes. 🙂
Would gladly give you some lettuce in place of your tomatoes. Mine seem to be sulking and not ripening due to lack of sunshine lately. July was a fab month, weather wise, whereas August seems to be grey and dull. Here’s going for some nice weather again to help the ripening process.
I hope the sun shines for you. We have just watched another storm rage outside, but in 10 mins the sun will be out again.
